My "Moving Meditations" Community Challenge Submission
Pwnisher ( / pwnisher ) sometimes has these community render challenges where he glues together a bunch of 3D videos with a common theme that have been created and rendered by the public.
This was my humble addition to the project - certainly not award winning but I thought it was appropriate. You can learn more about the challenge here: • Moving Meditations 3D Community Chall... . The general gist is you are given a scene with some subtle camera movement, a dummy avatar for positioning, and several motion files for you to embed into your own character that will replace the dummy character.
I chose my Devil Dude character just to make it interesting, and then put him on top of a big rock with a dramatic sky for a background to give it that "meditation" feeling. To spruce it up, I had his hands power up and glow during the animation, like he was some sort of anime character building up his attack powers. This was done with clever use of white gloves and emissive shaders, then animating the transparency property. Apart from that, there was some subtle post effects added to make it look a bit more dramatic, such as a vignette and faux hdr. And that, my friends, is that.
Incidentally, this was done in iClone8, which worked really well because it now has the ability to re-map animations from other skeletons, so I was able to basically just drag-n-drop the animation file onto my character and it was done. Of course, nothing in life is ever that simple and it still took over an hour to fix the motions, lock the feet, etc.
