Detecting RFI Sources in the Shack and Home
In this video I demonstrate one easy method of detecting sources of RFI/EMI that can be found in a typical home environment and in your shack and very briefly discuss how they can be reduced. The sources that can emit RFI/EMI are varied and I was surprised at some of the devices that were responsible. The RFI noise from most of the devices quickly dropped off as I moved the radio away from the noise source and may not directly affect DX'ing on the lower bands. However it does contribute to the overall increase in the background RFI levels we all experience when living in the suburbs or the city. At the very least, by identifying the worst RFI sources in our homes and shack, we can increase the enjoyment of our hobby on an individual level.
