NEW MANILA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT UPDATE..
San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is currently building the country’s biggest international gateway after emerging as the winner in the P735-billion New Manila International Airport

Conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) on Thursday said the New Manila International Airport in Bulakan, Bulacan has the potential to decongest the notorious traffic in Metro Manila.

A major benefit of the P735-billion airport project is traffic decongestion for Metro Manila

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) formally awarded San Miguel’s infrastructure unit San Miguel Holdings Corporation the contract to build and operate the P735-billion Bulacan airport project.

The company bagged the contract after a Swiss challenge concluded last month with no other companies challenging original proponent San Miguel for the project.

An unsolicited proposal from San Miguel’s infrastructure unit, the Bulacan airport was approved by the NEDA Board—chaired by President Rodrigo Duterte—on April 26 subject to the resolution of pending issues, including the joint and several liability agreements by San Miguel Holdings and parent SMC.

The project involves the construction, operation, and maintenance of a 2,500-hectare airport in Bulakan, Bulacan. The development includes a passenger terminal building with airside and landside facilities, an airport toll road, and four runways.

The airport has a design capacity of 100 million passengers a year, but can be expanded to 200 million, and is targeted to accommodate 240 aircraft movements per hour.

The project will also include the construction of an 8.4-kilometer tollway that will connect the airport to the North Luzon Expressway in Marilao.

The first phase of the project is expected to be operational within four to six years after construction starts. SMC will develop and operate the airport complex through a 50-year concession period.

Phase 1 of NMIA will consist of two parallel runways expandable up to 6 runways in the future and three passenger terminal buildings. This will be undertaken over a period of three to four years. The capacity is seen to nearly triple to 100 million annually.

This project will also have an elevated airport expressway and a separate shoreline expressway..An Airport city dubbed as the green city of the future will also be built with residential zone, institutional zone, industrial and a government center.

A seaport and a new railway line will connect to this new airport..
