What is an FPV drone? | FPV 101: Phase 1, Episode 2
Most often, when people think of an FPV racing drone, they are referring to a multi-rotor. A multi-rotor is an aircraft that generates lift using rotors to blow air downward, as opposed to traditional aircraft which generate lift using a fixed-wing.
The most common multi-rotor type & the one we use in our races is a quadcopter, which has 4 rotors. There are also tricopters (3 rotors), hexacopters (6 rotors), octocopters (8 rotors), and so on. Unless specified otherwise, you can assume an FPV drone is likely a quadcopter - a drone with 4 motors.
