In McAllen ISD, one of the components of remote learning this year will be synchronous and asynchronous learning. Here is a short explanation for parents.

Parents have asked what if I work or what if I can not help my child during scheduled class time? This guide can help.

Synchronous learning means students are online with teachers, in real time, interacting and engaging just as they would in the classroom.

Asynchronous means the student is online viewing material that was previously recorded or uploaded to a digital library that any student in the class can access at any time.

Each day, children will have the option of synchronous learning. As the schedule indicates, teachers will be teaching live at the scheduled class times. Students will be able to log on and participate in class just as they would in a school building. Every one of those class times will be recorded, and those recordings will also be placed in the child's online classroom library. These will be available to access at any time so that students who attended live sessions can access again, or, students who were not able to attend can see it as well.

In addition, teachers will also be scheduling office hours so that students and parents who have questions or need additional support can communicate directly. We are committed to ensuring every student is able to access our excellent teaching as well as our teachers. Parent information meetings and additional information will be shared in the weeks ahead.

McAllen ISD will also soon unveil a new McAllen ISD app that will be user-friendly for moms and dads. The first day of classes will be Monday, August 24, 2020. #WeAreReady
