Joshua Eyer, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer killed in the line of duty Monday, will be remembered during a memorial service in Uptown Charlotte on Friday morning.

Eyer is one of four law enforcement officers killed during a shooting in east Charlotte. Four other CMPD officers and a Statesville officer were also injured during the hours-long standoff.

A memorial service for Eyer will begin at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, which is located at 301 South Davidson St. in Uptown Charlotte.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., a procession will travel the few blocks from CMPD Headquarters, located at 601 East Trade St., to the church.

"We will also be indebted to Officer Eyer for his bravery and his sacrifice for this profession," Johnny Jennings, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department chief, said. "He certainly dedicated his life and gave his life to serve our citizens."

Eyer was a six-year veteran of the department. He leaves behind a wife and a three-year-old son.

"It's just been very tough knowing that you have families that are hurting right now," Jennings said as he wiped away tears. "We'll get through it." #News #Charlotte
