The Red Queen Hypothesis states that when two entities are competing with each other for control, they will continue in a state of constant evolutionary battle, where one of them is losing and is under pressure to innovate. This leads to accelerated evolution. Dr. Malik provides the host-virus interaction as an example of evolutionary relationship that fits the Red Queen hypothesis.
