How to Safely Power Sony FX3/FX30 or A7S III via USB-PD
This is a guide on how to safely power your Sony FX3, FX3 or Sony A7SIII using a USB-PD power supply unit. This video will walk you through the correct units to buy and which USB-C cable I recommend for these two cameras. This guide is based on the official information provided by Sony in their instruction manual and after emailing them for confirmation.
While you can buy a dummy battery for the Sony FX3 or Sony A7C, the door will always be ajar. Dummy batteries can also cause the camera to malfunction if the voltage isn't properly regulated. This is the easiest and safest way to power the Sony FX3 via AC power.
The USB-PD power supplies mentioned in this video allow you to use the camera without the internal battery draining too flat. Even if your battery has only 1% power, the USB-PD will let you use the camera like it's plugged into a wall socket/AC power. This is a far safer option than using an unregulated dummy battery.
