House speaker vote continues with new GOP nominee Mike Johnson's bid — 10/25/23
The House of Representatives will continue its vote for a new Speaker, with the GOP's new chosen nominee, Rep. Mike Johnson. He is the party's fourth nominee for the job since Kevin McCarthy was ousted as speaker three weeks ago.
On Tuesday morning, Republicans selected Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., as their nominee for speaker only to see him drop out that afternoon, unable to get the 217 votes needed to win the speaker's gavel in the full House.
