Sexologist and urologist from Göttingen, dr. med. dr. phil. Stefan Buntrock explains in this video on UroChannel the meaning of sexual preference. In summary, it consists of 3 axes: sexual orientation, sexual alignment and sexual tendency. Preference is mostly formed during puberty. Genetic factors, biographic factors and a lot of unknown things have an influence. At the end of puberty, sexual preference is set for life and can't be changed. In sexual history taking, sexual preference is a very important point because it describes what the individual wants to do to others sexually, and what others should do to him/her. Knowledge about preference is of key importance in therapeutic settings, because it leads to a proper diagnosis. Without diagnosis, there is no treatment.
