In this video, we will learn how to use the split and trim function in Power Query. There is a column in our dataset where all the text is combined into one column. We want to split this column into three different columns. Additionally, we also need to remove any unwanted spaces that may be present. We will demonstrate this process using Power BI.
To begin, we will import the table named "Text split trim" into Power BI. Make sure to close the file before importing the data. Once the data is imported, we can access the Power Query text functions by clicking on "Get Data" and selecting "Excel" or "Power Query text functions".
Next, we need to select the column we want to split and go to "Transform Data". Here, we will find a variety of text functions in the "Transform Column" box. To split the column, we can use the "Split by Delimiter" function. In this case, the delimiter is a comma.
Simply click on "OK" and the column will be split into multiple columns. You can rename the columns as desired. If there are any unwanted spaces in the columns, you can use the "Trim" option under the "Format" tab to remove them.
Once the necessary transformations are complete, click on "Close and Apply" to load the table. The split columns can be used for further analysis, such as creating sales reports by city.
