Delivering the inaugural Sir William Tyree Energy Lecture, the Honourable Professor Robert Hill AC explores how the global community should respond to anthropogenic climate change.
The Sir William Tyree Energy Lecture is named in honour of one of Australia's great engineers, industrialists and philanthropists. Sir William Tyree was passionate about energy research and the need to promote open and honest dialogue about our energy future.
Professor Robert Hill AC is a respected political leader and academic with extensive experience in environmental and sustainability policy.
Professor Hill was Leader of the Government in the Senate from March 1996 until his resignation from Parliament in January 2006. He was Minister for the Environment 1996-98, Minister for the Environment and Heritage 1998-2001 and Minister for Defence from November 2001 to January 2006. Professor Hill was the Australian Ambassador to the United Nations from 2006 – 2009, and in July 2009, he was appointed by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as Chairman of the Australian Carbon Trust. From July 2010 to July 2014, Professor Hill served two terms as Chancellor of the University of Adelaide. In June 2012, he was awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia. Professor Hill currently holds board positions at the UNSW Australia (Chair, CRC for Low Carbon Living) University of Sydney (Adjunct Professor in Sustainability, US Studies Centre) and University of Queensland (Advisory Board member, Global Change Institute).
