What is the career path for a CISO?
One of the questions I am most often asked is how do I become a CISO? A CISO is a non-traditional career path, mainly because it’s such a new position that the path is still being blazed, so to speak. In this episode, I take you through some of the different paths that you can become a CISO. A CISO must be able to go between the two worlds of executives and security engineers, which are two different cultures with their own discrete languages and priorities. So you have to have a background in one, then reach out to find mentorship in the other. This may sound daunting at first, but if you are willing to give someone value in exchange for their time, and are willing to not get discouraged if you hear “no” a number of times, it can be done. If you want to do what other people haven’t done, you have to be willing to do what other people won’t.
