ncpamixer [1] is the by far most completed PulseAudio mixer in terminal, I believe it's the first one that I have seen the current sound level being displayed, not just the volume setting.

I think it's fair to say it's the only one closest to pavucontrol. It also has configuration for keybindings if you don't like the default.

Default controls are easy to remember, volume level (0:17), mute (0:15), drop-down menu (0:30). The UI is uncomplicated, the tabs at bottom, such as Playback and Recording.

Beside those, I like the multi-color bars, they look quite elegant, eye-caching.
