What we have on the top of our list is, the Livescribe Symphony smartpen an ink pen, in a minimalist form factor, that also doubles as a smartpen. By that we mean this is able to record what you're writing and convert that into digital text via a connected app. So you can scribble out notes as you might normally, only knowing that you'll also have a typed digital version waiting for you when you're done. That is great if you are someone who is likely to not have a backup of notes. This smartpen is usually $110 upfront, and then you will need to factor in buying the special dotted paper which allows it to work converting writing to digital text. You can also print out this special dotted paper, or go for a journal pack. It's one of the best smart pens available today as far as our research tells us. The Livescribe Symphony is a superb example of a smartpen. It allows you to work as you would with any pen, recording as it goes, for you to digitize when convenient. Or work live, recording audio notes and watching as the text appears on the app screen as you work. Conversion to digital text is accurate and simple and you have lots of export options for sharing.
Okay, the second one we would like to introduce to you is the Wacom bamboo ink. What makes this different is that rather than being round, the barrel of the Bamboo Ink is triangular shaped. It’s still quite rounded, though, without sharp edges. This stylus is 5.75 inches long, and 0.4 inches in diameter at its widest point. The top button is used as an application launcher. One, two, or three quick presses and voila, it can open the Windows Ink Workspace, Sticky Notes, the sketchpad, screen sketch, or other apps. It’s up to the user to decide which. The side button doesn’t protrude much from the barrel at all, so it doesn’t get in the way. At the same time, it’s easily available to be used as a right mouse button. When using a fingertip or capacitive stylus, the touchscreen alone can tell the location of contact. The pens communicate these details to tablets by one of two incompatible standards: Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP) or Wacom AES technology. The feature that sets Wacom’s stylus apart from its rivals is that it supports both of these. We highly recommend one of these if you are looking for a smartpen.
