When working with big data, you can’t assume that the data is ready for visualization. Prior to loading your data into KeyLines, it needs to go through the “data funnel” – a process of reduction from billions of data points to a small enough collection for a user to be able to interact with and understand.
The techniques you need vary at each stage of the funnel. Some are purely in the back-end and others in the front-end. But the real opportunity lies in creating an effective “visual model” of your data – a mapping between the data as it looks to a computer to how you want it to look to a human being.
