Palletizing Cases (Juice & Tea) in a Cold Room Environment
FANUC Authorized System Integrator Motion Controls Robotics’ robot system highlights a common issue fast-growing manufacturers are facing – How can we increase throughput using only current floorspace?
MCRI has designed a compact layout to accommodate two palletizers into the space of a single line, single robot palletizer - doubling throughput.
Two FANUC M-410iC/185 palletizing robots pick cases of tea by the row to build pallets in a cold room where the average temperature is 35°F (1.7°C).
Palletizing efficiency was increased by improving end of arm tooling design and using new technologies in vacuum grippers and silicone cups.
After two layers are completed, robots pick a tier sheet from the rack and place it on top of the case layers.
The systems share a safety fence, transfer unit, and exit conveyor but otherwise are controlled and run as two separate systems.
Safety muting logic at each light curtain allows pallets to travel through the light curtains onto the transfer conveyor without interrupting system operation.
Finished pallets convey through this transfer unit to the Safety Door and exit the cell on the outbound conveyor.
The end customer has seen the needed increase in throughput and the efficiency of the system has exceeded their expectations.
