Some R42s are slated to be removed from MTA property and scrapped. Here we see a train of R42s leaving East NY Yard to be transferred to 38 St Yard, in preparation for scrapping. This is a very rare catch, as it is likely one of the last times these specific R42 cars will run under their own power. Enjoy a rare and unusual look at the end of a subway car's life!
Note: Not all of the R42s will be scrapped. Some will survive as motive power for garbage trains, others are preserved in the NY Transit Museum collections.
