STEP ONE - CONTACT DVLA FOR A VIN NUMBER
[email protected]
Give them the following info
Your name
Your address
The reason a VIN number is required
Tell them its a self built electric moped
STEP TWO - MAKE YOUR BIKE READY FOR MSVA
Download the MSVA Manual to work out what will be tested on your bike
https://www.gov.uk/government/publica...
READ THE MANUAL THOROUGHLY AS IT WILL REALLY HELP YOU DISCUSS WITH YOUR TESTER ANY ISSUES YOU MIGHT FACE ON THE DAY.
The guy I had was very down to earth and he advised me on a couple of things but generally he was quite laid back because I had clearly tried hard to cover all areas. DO YOUR HOMEWORK, DON'T WASTE ANYONES TIME
STEP 3 - BOOK THE MSVA TEST
Download the MSVA application form and submit it online.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publica...
The DVLA will then contact you to take payment of £85 for the test and you can book a date
On the day of the test show up a bit earlier to allow time to fix any issues if you are unloading the bike from a car or van. I would recommend taking any tools just in case you have to fix something!
Once the bike passes you will be given a Ministers Approval Certificate, DONT LOSE IT!
STEP 4 - REGISTER THE NEW VEHICLE
Download the V55/5 to register a NEW vehicle.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publica...
Fill in the form, referring to for V355/5 which will help you greatly.
Send the completed V55/5 together with the following other docs to the DVLA
registration fee of £55 (postal order)
MAC Certificate (original)
identify documents (photocopy of drivers license)
proof of address (bank statement etc)
WAIT PATIENTLY, BUY A PROPER CRASH HELMET AND SEEK OUT SOME INSURANCE (expect to pay between £100-300 depending on age)
