In my first build I used 1/8th inch plywood. Bad idea! it sagged a lot and water got in through the screw holes for the trucks and rotted the whole thing out.

In my second deck for my electric skateboard, I cut solid maple veneers BUT I orientated all of them in the same direction. I was worried the deck sag would sit on the enclosure and the battery causing them to fail. The only fail I had was that my deck started to crack very bad after only 4 months or so of use. I also used a black polyurethane stain instead of paint called Polyshades from Minwax which I got at Lowe's. This better protected the deck and also kept the wood black if it got scuffed.

On my third and FINAL deck I used maple veneers again but I crossed orientated the grain to prevent cracking. I also used my new 1.75 hp Jet 16" bandsaw to cut the veneers. Blade I used was poor though so it wasn't very different from my homemade 1/2 hp bandsaw.

I ride my longboard every single day and put over 1000 miles on each deck so I am 10 times harsher on my board than the average rider. You can watch all my other adventures working on electric longboards right here on the channel so be sure to subscribe and check them all out!
