Sir Martin Donnelly says the UK service industry has developed from the days when companies loaded crates onto trains, lorries or ships. Today, it’s part of a global sector driven by value-added investment and supply chains.
Donnelly should know: the long-serving civil servant was responsible for setting up the Department for International Trade, of which he was permanent secretary.
