In Genshin Impact's "In the Mountains" questline, players are tasked with thawing three ancient shards in Dragonspine. Each shard is encased in ice and requires the use of Scarlet Quartz to melt. Scarlet Quartz is obtained by destroying red crystal nodes nearby. Once collected, attack the ice-encased shard while under the Scarlet Quartz's effect to thaw it.
Shard Locations:

Frostbearing Tree Area:

Located near the Frostbearing Tree.

Four Scarlet Quartz are scattered around; collect and use them to thaw the shard.
Starglow Cavern:

Found within Starglow Cavern.

A barrier protects the shard; complete a nearby time trial to deactivate it.

Collect Scarlet Quartz to melt the ice.
Wyrmrest Valley:

Located under an ice floor in Wyrmrest Valley.

Complete a Seelie puzzle and defeat enemies to access Scarlet Quartz.

Use the Quartz to thaw the final shard.
After thawing all shards, the path to Dragonspine's summit becomes accessible, unlocking further exploration and rewards.
