After years of testing, GE and its partners have cracked the code to mass-producing ceramic matrix composite (CMC) material which they are now putting in state of the art jet engines. CMCs are as tough as metals, but only one-third as heavy and can operate at 2400 degrees Fahrenheit -- 500 degrees higher than most advanced alloys. Here's how the process works.
