Loosing one testicle is a frightful scenario for many men. The reason for this to happen can be releated to testicular torsion, testicular cancer, accidents or a birth defect. Many men can not image how life would be with only one testicle. Dr. Dr. Stefan Buntrock, urologist from Göttingen explains on UroChannel the implications when one testicle is lost. What are testicles for? They produce the male sex hormon testosterone and sperm. Both fertility and hormone status are in danger with only one testicle. Especially in aging, one has to pay attention to measuring testosterone regularly to counteract hypogonadism. Nevertheless, life with one testicle as a rule is not much different as if two testicles were in place.
