Cyberpunk Red Peppershaker is a surprisingly good gun idea.
the Cyberpunk Red peppershaker is a genius idea. it's just a shotgun with extra steps! point blank, sure. bunch of rounds hitting the same spot. but as distance increases, shotgun pellets spread. that's why they're used for hunting birds on the wing or home defense, that spread gives you room for error. the rounds fired from the peppershaker are likely 5.7 amd wouldn't spread due to all having rifled barrels. they'd fly in a tight pack over a longer distance. all likely hitting in the same one inch diameter out to 50 or even 100 yards. that's cool and all, but why not just fire a regular bullet? the modern military wears ceramic body armor that's rated to stop no less than 3 armor piercing full size rifle rounds across its surface. but one weakness it has is if even a sub caliber round hits, then that roughly square two inches is compromised, and subsequent hits can go through. in general it's difficult to be accurate enough to do that in a firefight, but if you had a gun that shot multiple rounds in the same area... this compact gun could achieve what multiple full size rifle rounds couldn't, all with recoil similar to one shot from an ak47. don't get me wrong, it'd definitely be niche. but people have made guns filling weirder niches.
