The giant Pacific octopus, Enteroctopus dofleini, is the largest octopus in the world. The biggest on record had an arm span of 30 feet and weighed over 600 pounds! They live in chilly Pacific waters from Korea and Japan north to Alaska and south to Southern California. They usually live in relatively shallow, coastal waters but we’ve observed them with our remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) at depths of over 1,000 meters (over 3,000 feet).
