I recently examined an MCM6570 Motorola chip. This particular chip had an 8K ROM, which according to the datasheet, is typically used for storing characters such as letters and numbers. It's likely that this chip was originally part of a circuit that included a display. One interesting thing about this chip is that I was able to access the silicon die without damaging the chip itself. By applying heat to the metal cap with a hot air tool and using a sharp knife, I was able to pry it open. Unfortunately, the ceramic package is shaped in a way that prevents me from getting close enough to the surface with my 40x lens.
