https://www.danieljohnsonfilms.co.uk/... - This is an original showreel scene that I wrote for my client. The scene features a mother character and her daughter.
The important thing in showreel scenes is to show, in a very specific way, the actor's casting type. Of course, a 'Mother' character can often be written as a boring stereotype. What I decided to do here was to write a woman character who is struggling to handle a situation in a mature way that a mother would want to.
At first, we see her daughter playing the more 'parental' role, advising the other character to take responsibility.
Not only does the scene show the actors in casting types that suit them, it also shows how they handle the dynamics of conflict. There is also a strong character arc where we see the mother learning from her daughter.
The scene also deals with a life and death situation. The mother has cancer and is coming to terms with how she deals with it and how she shares the information with her family members.
This scene was written for Catherine Allison, and also features Lily Barrett.
