Why were the Empires Stormtroopers so useless?
The fighting prowess of the Empires Stormtroopers has become the target of many jokes due to their ineffectivness. However, they were in fact the Empires elite forces and were highly feared and effective, particularly during the early days of Imperial reign. Nevertheless, by the time of the original trilogy, Stormtroopers were pretty useless for several reasons. First, they were no longer the lethal, highly trained clones of Jango Fett, instead utilising conscripts who were often only there for the money. Second, the clone troopers effective phase 2 armour was replaced with the traditional stormtrooper armor. This fit poorly and it was extremely difficult to see out of. And lastly and perhaps the most interesting, their inaccuracy could be th work of the force. As we saw in rogue one, the force can slightly alter events to allow balance to be achieved, thus giving us an in-universe reason for plot armour.
