Getting Weather (from 3 stations) AND Talking With a 2 other stations, all within a few minutes of walking on-board and just seconds after tuning radio on!
Halfway down the dock, and started recording at 10:50am EST, Fri, Jan 18, 2019....got into cabin and took off sunglasses, and turned on M-802 at 10:53am....
Immediately heard Intercon Net on 14.300mhz (at 1m 33s), tuned around for a minute and heard stations all over 20m, and 17m, as well as USCG Offshore Marine Weather, and then 40m...
Decided to call someone on 40m, for a "regional" contact (at 3m 14s)...he was about 700 miles away...spoke with him for a couple minutes...
Turned a few breakers on (for Nav Instruments, WeFax, Autopilot, VHF, etc.) at 3m 55 sec...and then turned on GPS at 4min 10secs....and my GPS position shows up on M-802's screen at 4m 47sec...
Then, spun up to 20m and heard a station calling CQ, etc...at 6m 55secs (just 6 minutes after turning radio on, and after speaking with the first guy for a few minutes, and before that listening to USCG HF weather broadcasts, for a minute...)
Worked KM1CC Marconi Special Events Station, on 20m (at 8m 04sec)....after speaking with him for a little more than a minute, spun the dial again...
At 9m 25sec, heard USCG WeFax (from Boston) and then tuned USCG Voice Weather Broadcasts (from Chesapeake VA)....
Then turned On my Furuno FAX-408 WeFax receiver (at 9m 55sec) and then started a weather chart reception (at 10m 14sec)....
Then turned back to the M-802, to listen to USCG Offshore Weather broadcasts (at 10m 25sec) from New Orleans (NMG) and Chesapeake VA (NMN)....
Listening to them for a couple minutes, while the Furuno FAX-408 WeFax is printing a weather chart.
So, within seconds of turning on the radio, I heard multiple stations on multiple bands/freqs, decided to call and speak to two different stations, on two different bands (one ~ 700 miles away, the other ~ 1200 miles away)...
Also, I listened to 2 different USCG HF SSB Voice Weather Broadcasts (NMN Chesapeake VA about 800miles away....and NMG New Orleans, about 700 miles away)...
And, started reception of a WeFax Weather Chart from a 3rd USCG station (NMF, Boston about 1300 miles away)
So, you CAN hear and speak to a station, or 2, or 3, etc...within a minute of walking on-board!!
Just on any random day, at any random time, no prep, no plan....just like would happen if you're out at sea and in need of assistance, or a weather forecast!!
