Confession is good for the soul. In the press material for Olivia O’Brien’s ‘love & limerence’ EP, the singer flatly states that “I have not fared well in love these past 24 years, possibly by my own accord…yet still…I find it beautiful that no matter how many times we have been burned, our innate human desire to be loved encourages us to keep running towards the fire.” Confession is also good for music. O’Brien’s penchant for riding deep hooks was obvious when her ‘Was It Even Real?’ debut arrived in 2019, and since then, through gems such as “Josslyn,” “Better Than Feeling Lonely,” and “Bitches These Days,” her work has both broadened and been refined. Last time she hit our studio we mentioned that “adulting arrives with a unique set of problems,” and that Olivia could “help you work through it all.” Through song after song, she has always stood up to life’s road bumps, and occasionally turned to friends to bolster that strength and create camaraderie. Remember how powerful her “Bitch Back” collab with Fletcher was? ‘love & limerence’ is on its way, and to celebrate a new batch of Olivia tunes we had her into the Vevo Studio to share her latest vibe. “blip” is a dreamy item that finds her forlorn. “How is it fair/you’re the love of my life/but you never cared if I lived, or I died.” Physical and emotional solitude continues to be the object of her ire in “here, alone, again.” She’s got the power to pull you in, no question.
