The biggest limit to our creativity comes from our comfort zone. You need to escape yours and get out there, there where the magic happens (remember that meme?). In our comfort zone everything is way too safe and familiar to result in really creative thinking.

Thanks for watching this video. As promised, here’s something you can try at home to get to grips with this information.

Exercise:
Challenge Yourself: Set up a 30-Day Comfort Zone Expansion Challenge
The idea is to gradually and consistently expand your comfort zone over a 30-day period.
Before you start, summarise your current state of mind and your attitude toward change. How nervous does this project make you?

Now, set the challenge up in a word table, an excel spreadsheet or in your calendar.
Set yourself achievable tasks to do new or different things for each day
For example, you can:
Make changes to a daily routine, make a point of talking to new people, try a new activity, attend a social event where you don’t know anyone, volunteer to speak at an event etc

Take note of what you learn after each action in your challenge
When the 30 days are over, go back to your starting summary of your state of mind. Have you changed? What did you learn and how did it help you?

Further study:
Because creativity is so intertwined with the discovery of the new, how we deal with change and growth is really important. To deal better with change and growth, get yourself a copy of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" by Carol S. Dweck… you’ll be so glad you did!
