Russian actors hold audience 'hostage' in 'immersive theatre' war experience
A group of burly men dressed in Ukrainian military uniform burst onstage of a provincial Russian theatre, holding viewers at gunpoint and taking two people hostage moments before the audience realised it was part of a performance about the plight of eastern Ukraine.
The self-described “immersive show” produced by pro-separatist actors from eastern Ukraine’s Luhansk premiered on Tuesday at Kaluga’s Philharmonic that typically hosts classical music concerts.
Kaluga’s local TV in a report titled “Shooting at the Philharmonic” showed footage of a group of gun-toting men in the uniform of Ukrainian commandos burst into the theatre’s hall as = viewers in aisle seats fidgeted nervously and looked around in disbelief. The men in full military gear moved up the aisle, firing blank ammunition in the air, shouting abuse at the people, and dragged away a man and a woman.
The viewers were heard shrieking: “Let me go!” and “It hurts!”.
