With everything that has happened in 2020, the best locations for Airbnb have changed. What are the types of locations that will perform the best in 2021?
Today, we are going to look at the best Airbnb business locations for 2021. We aren’t going to mention specific cities, but we are going to look at what types of locations are going to work really well in 2021 no matter where you are located in the world, whether you are going to do it remotely or where you are located. Historically, downtown cities have performed really well on Airbnb because a lot of tourists come to visit the big cities like New York and LA. Right now, it isn’t that these areas aren’t doing well, but there is another type of location that is doing exceptionally well. That location is the areas outside of the major cities that are desirable for locals to travel for a weekend getaway or a staycation. For obvious reasons, domestic travel has been the majority of travel in 2020. So for the millions of people that live in the large cities, they are going to want to go to places that are relatively close but still out of the city for a vacation.
Now, any of those places may work really well right now during tha pandemic. But once things start to become more normal again, some of those locations might not perform as well. So it’s important to choose an area that is attractive both to locals looking for a weekend getaway and also tourists. I’ll give you a Canadian example. Vancouver is a really big city by Canadian standards. It’s a great place for properties and it does really well. Right now, though, the city of Whistler is probably a better option. It is about 2 hours north, it’s a popular ski destination, so it is a popular area where people from Vancouver go for a vacation, but it’s also a really popular spot for outside tourism as well. Another great example is Banff. It’s a couple hours away from Calgary, so it’s a great place for a weekend getaway. But it’s absolutely beautiful and a very popular tourist spot. Similar locations are the mountains outside of Dever, Colorado. These are popular areas year round, both in the summer and the winter.
If you want to build yourself a sustainable business, you’re going to want to find properties that are attractive both for domestic and international tourism. That way you’re protected no matter what happens with the tourism and travel industry in 2021.
