I never would have thought I would be making a video on how to grow on YouTube in 2021 but, I was able to get my first 1000 subscribers and be monetized in under 4 months and I'm here to share with you exactly how I did that.

So I'm sure if you watch videos from Nick Nimmin, Annie Dube, Think Media, etc, you may already know what this is but for those that do not, SEO is search engine optimization. You need to set your videos up so that they are searchable so that you can be seen as a small youtuber. This means you want to create content that people are actively searching for. And when you find that topic, the keywords in your title, tags and description all need to line up. I have used TubeBuddy and Keywords Everywhere to get some ideas of what people are actually searching for, though I don't really use it that much now. Keep in mind that the goal is to be seen on the first page of the keyword that you are targeting, so if you are going after something really popular as a small youtuber, you're unlikely to be seen. Target something with a decent amount of search traffic, but not too much especially when you're first starting out.
Finding Your Niche
So this becomes so important so your audience knows what your channel is all about. Though I do have a variety of videos, I try to make sure I make at least 1 construction engineering/construction management video so my subscribers know that that right now is the foundation of my channel, and I think that's really important to understand early on. When I targeted project engineer construction instead of just generic terms like engineering, civil engineering, personal finance, etc. that's when I started to get noticed.
Click Through Rate and Watch Time
In my opinion, just starting out, these are the only analytics that you should be focused on. Click Through Rate tells you if your thumbnails are good (along with titles) and Watch Time tells you if your content is interesting/good. From what I understand aiming from a click through rate between 2 and 10 percent is good and watch time 50% or more is considered good. So until you reach that, keep tweaking your content to see what works.
Consistency in YouTube
I truly believe that me posting religiously twice a week contributes a lot to my growth. I made it a non-negotiable requirement for myself to push out videos twice a week. This way, YouTube knows you're a serious creator and your subscribers can expect you and get in a routine every week. You want to maintain familiarity with your audience.
Trending Topics
Though I haven't done this successfully yet, I see a lot of small youtubers out there jumping on trending topics and I see that can really help their channel. You can't jump on late, being early or just in time is key so keep that in mind.
