Cambodia & China trade expansion helping Sihanouk Ville Port to grow
Jointly developed by Chinese and Cambodian investors, the SSEZ is a pivotal project under China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Since the beginning of 2024, the 11-square-km SSEZ has attracted eight new enterprises, totaling 188, and created over 30,000 jobs. Neak Chandarith, from Cambodia's Maritime Silk Road Research Center, highlighted its strategic location near the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, facilitating trade. The SSEZ significantly contributes to Cambodia's economic growth and employment opportunities, aligning with its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income nation by 2030 and a high-income one by 2050. Established in 2008, the SSEZ aims to host 300 enterprises, generating 100,000 local jobs.
