Met Police crackdown on criminals targeting delivery drivers
Gangsters are increasingly ambushing couriers as they attempt to post parcels, ransacking their vehicles (left and inset. bottom) before vanishing with thousands of pounds of goods. The attacks are taking place in every area, from busy city roads to quiet residential streets. Even villages have been hit by gangs. Shocking footage in Dagenham (top right), east London, captured thieves in action as they frantically looted a white delivery van during the middle of the day. So-called porch pirates are also increasingly on the prowl, snatching packages left outside people's homes by delivery drivers. Now police have launched a Christmas crackdown, with Scotland Yard's Flying Squad tackling parcel thieves during dramatic raids across London (bottom right and inset, top)
