In this video, we will explore how to use the "Column from Example" feature in Power BI on a date data type column. Unlike the previous videos, which focused on text functions, this time we will work with dates. We have already loaded a simple dataset with a date column containing 10 records.

The data type of the column is displayed as a calendar icon, indicating it is a date. The dataset includes various dates spanning different years. With the "Column from Example" feature, you can apply at least 25 different functions just by writing simple text, without the need for any additional clicks. Power Query will automatically understand your input.

We will demonstrate the process by selecting the "Add Column" option and choosing "Column from Example." Let's say we want to extract only the day from the dates. By typing "08" and pressing Enter for each record, we can train Power Query to understand our desired outcome. If you wish to extract other values, such as the month or year, you can simply type the corresponding number and press Enter.

Additionally, we will show you how to extract the month name by providing examples such as "8 November 2018" and "12 June 2018." Power Query may take a moment to comprehend the pattern, but it will eventually generate the desired output.

This video will equip you with essential knowledge on how to leverage the "Column from Example" feature for date data types in Power BI. It offers a quick and efficient way to perform various transformations and extract specific values without intricate steps or complex formulas.
