When Sparkle first encounters Aventurine, she makes some very harsh remarks. She immediately identifies him as a Sigonian based on the beauty of his eyes, then mocks him by saying Sigonians are thieves and liars. This differs from the original Chinese text, where she used the term "tzigane." "Sigonian/Sigonia" are derived from "Tzigane," a term considered a slur against Romani people in many European languages. Although Sigonians are not direct representations of Romani people, the name used for them is based on a real slur.
As a result, fans are upset and angry, with some even sending death threats to the voice actor. Many people don't realize that voice actors do not write the scripts. In my view, while the character is indeed very harsh, that's part of her personality as a villain. Whether or not the lines are racist, the voice actor should not be blamed.
