13News Now... Then: Military Circle Mall's fresh new look
Original Air Date: 9/17/1996. Originally opening in 1970, Norfolk's Military Circle Mall has seen its share of ups and downs. At the height of the mall boom in the 1990s, Military Circle got an extensive $15 million facelift. Today the mall is a shell of what it once was, with most stores closed and its primary focus being a COVID-19 testing and vaccination site. However, the city has purchased much of the space that the mall sits on, and hopes to fully redevelop the site in the years to come.
