Tricks and illusions, once the domain of magicians, are helping scientists unveil how the brain works. University of Delaware researchers demonstrate the classic mirror box illusion and explain how the brain weighs the conflicting information it receives from the senses. UD research has created a new mirror box illusion that is now being used to gain more insight into how the brain process multi sensory inputs. Such information is critical to advancing new treatments for patients with brain injuries such as strokes, chronic pain and other disorders, and for developing artificial limbs that feel like a part of the body.
