Yes it's coming out soon; the Mi Note 10 Lite. I've got the global model that will be released in Europe in a week or so, but is it any good?
The Note 10 lite has exactly the same looks, size, and feel, as the Mi Note 10. It does have some big differences in the camera department and most notably in the processing department.
The Mi Note 10 Lite has a Snapdragon 730G processor which is the same mid-tier level processor as found in the Redmi K30. It's surely not THE best processor, and it scored extremely low in the Geekbench testing that I have performed. Despite having some lower numbers, it did keep up with all the everyday tasks that I threw at it. It is just perfectly fine for your everyday type of emailing, texting, Facebooking and it didn't even perform all that bad with Adobe Lightroom. Also, I have played some PUBG on this phone and it kept up with that well, no frame drops and no noticeable lagging.
So even though the Mi Note 10 Lite does not have a high-end, flagship processor, it managed to do well with the most common tasks.
The battery is the same (HUGE) 5260 mAh battery as found in the regular Mi Note 10 and offers 30 watts quick charging. -This battery has been the best performing battery on any phone that I have had thus far so that is very good.
The camera has seen quite a big downgrade as the Mi Note 10 Lite has a 64-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, 2 megapixel macro camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. This is not the best on paper, but in use it's actually not a bad camera.
Especially the main camera had some great performance and the pictures that I have taken with it came out looking good. Even when comparing it with the Mi Note 10 it did quite well. Most pictures of the Mi Note 10 I found to be a bit better than on the Lite, but to my surprise there actually were 2 photos that I found to be looking better on the Mi Note 10 Lite.
At night the camera performance dropped significantly and the night photos really did not come out looking too well. In the evening indoors with some ambient lighting, the photos already came out looking much better.
The video performance was surprisingly good. The stabilization, the colors and the overall quality was much better than I had anticipated. Except for some small stabilization artifacts, it was a very well performing video shooter. Again, at night the video performance dropped from "WOW" to.. "Oh..". The videos came out much darker than I have had on any Xiaomi phone before. That did result in much less noise and better control of dark areas in the frame, but generally was too dark to be very usable. I can imagine this video to give some good results when there are lights involved in a dark place like a concert. I am assuming that those videos will come out looking good, but for night time outdoor shooting it really wasn't that great.
So overall the Mi Note 10 LITE did surprise me with quite a few things. First and foremost I was surprised that Xiaomi even made a LITE-version of this phone to begin with, but nothing should surprise me anymore when it comes to Xiaomi and the insane amount of phones they have been releasing.
Nonetheless, the Note 10 lite has some pretty good performance. Even though it does not have the best processor. The camera did do better than I thought it would and it enabled Xiaomi to make a phone that is placed in the lower end of the mid-tier segment.
