The most Ive ever experienced God's miracle is always through my labor and birth. Last April 13, I labored and gave birth in an inflatable pool in the comforts of our little condo bedroom. This is my 2nd unmedicated birth. I wont lie and tell you it was less painful than the first. I was only reminded how intense it was when I started having my surges. I dont think words can ever describe the kind of pain a birthing mother goes through until a person experiences it herself. I remember in my first birth there were so many instances I wanted to just die to end the agony and kept crying for Jesus to save me, but this birth in particular, I had mentally prepared to redirect what I go through for our Lord and our Lady and focus on the consolation that I'll see my baby soon. This gave me the extra strength I never thought I had.
Since Holy week just happened before this, I promised Jesus I'll offer it all for His passion and for his mother. I dont think anyone has gone through worse suffering than them so I thought, what is this compared to their suffering. The whole time I was in labor I had in my sight and mind the image of Jesus and Mama Mary covered in blood at the foot of the cross. I posted it on my wall across the birthing pool along with the words of encouragement from my family and words I wanted to remember for myself.
The moment those strong transition surges came I could barely read the words anymore. Kiko kept reading them for me so I could be reminded who Im doing this for. But all I could do was wail and cry. I tried my best to embrace every surge. Many times I get lost in the pain and would try to refocus my attention. When I was able to hold the head of my baby as he crowned, my strength renewed and I was able to push him out in my next surge. In 1hr I went from 6-7cm dilation to finally holding my precious boy. It was the most beautiful gender reveal.
It's amazing what our bodies can do if you just let nature do its own work, but what's even more amazing is the strength we can have if we just include God in our journeys. Mothers are the strongest, most heroic and selfless beings ever.
Cheers to all mothers in the world!
