Crystal defects can be intentionally introduced or arise naturally during crystal growth, processing, or due to external conditions like temperature and radiation. Understanding and controlling these defects are crucial in materials science and engineering to tailor materials with desired properties for specific applications ranging from semiconductors and electronics to structural materials in aerospace and automotive industries.
