🛈 HOW I DREW THE WINNER 🛈
I wanted to make sure the contest was entirely unbiased, and completely random. After closing the ballot box (turning off comments) on December 31, 2022, I took a screenshot of every qualifying comment. Each screenshot (ballot) was saved as an individual image file. I then loaded the list of all ballot filenames into an array, shuffled the array programmatically, and then re-indexed the numbers to ensure each ballot was in a completely random order, having been assigned a new random number based on the shuffle mechanism. Then, I ran that list of numbers through a Mersenne Twister Random Number Generator to pick a single number from the available options. The selected number corresponded with a completely random ballot. For the display, I first ran the animation through the entire list of numbers (shuffled in the previous step) and then re-displayed the image file for the ballot which corresponded to the Mersenne Twister Random Number that was selected as the winner.
