For decades, Linux has been a powerhouse, running everything from smartphones to supercomputers. But even the most robust systems have weaknesses—memory safety bugs have long been a major issue in the Linux kernel.

Now, Rust may be the unexpected hero that changes everything. Instead of rewriting Linux from the ground up, Rust is being used to build new, memory-safe drivers and components. This means:

1. No more buffer overflows or Use-After-Free errors
2. Stricter ownership rules to prevent data races
3. Safer abstractions without sacrificing performance

With the Linux 6.13 update, Rust’s integration is accelerating. We’re already seeing Rust-based drivers emerge, with Android binder drivers, Apple AGX GPU support, and NVMe drivers on the horizon.

So, is Rust the future of Linux development?
