This is the story of Theseus, a young man born in Athens with a destiny awaiting him. He is raised by his grandfather in a village far from Athens until he decides to put an end to the torment of sending tributes to the Minotaur in Crete. Theseus sets off on a perilous journey and receives help from Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos, who gives him a thread to guide him through the labyrinth. Theseus battles and slays the Minotaur, and returns to Athens as a hero, but decides to abandon Ariadne on an island. Theseus is celebrated by the grateful people of Athens and goes on to have further adventures and acts of heroism.
