The #investigation into alleged irregularities in the management of financial funds by the #SistineChapel Choir began in September 2018, with authorization from the #Vatican.

The trial proceedings were initiated by the Promoter of Justice, Alessandro Diddi.
The first court hearing took place in May of an unspecified year. The defendants in the case are Massimo Palombella, the choir director; Michelangelo Nardella, the administrative director; and Simona Rossi, who is Nardella's wife. They are accused of misusing funds obtained from various concerts for personal gain. The money in question was allegedly deposited into an Italian bank account.
The second hearing occurred in June 2022. #Archbishop Georg Ganswein, who served as #Pope Benedict XVI's secretary, provided testimony during the proceedings. As the Sistine Chapel Choir fell under the Prefecture of the Pontifical Household, which Archbishop Ganswein headed until January 2019, he was involved in the case. In his statement, the Archbishop stated that he had suspicions regarding the actions of the choir and administrative directors but lacked concrete proof.
The next trial date is scheduled for July 26, with the three accused individuals expected to testify once again.
