In this video Francesca Pipe introduces her essay on Eric Allden's Diary from our book Inside Francis Bacon, published 6 August 2020. This is the third book in our Francis Bacon Studies series.
From a chance encounter on the Channel ferry in 1929, Allden and Bacon's friendship quickly developed. They visited Bacon's family in Ireland before renting an apartment together in Westminster. Allden became Bacon's first patron. Allden's Diary sheds new light on Bacon's formative years.
