I used LEGO Minifigs to Teach Nested Components in Figma (and It Works!)

Learning nested components is a huge unlock as a UX designer using Figma.

What better way to learn than with LEGO!

First, you want to get all the layers of our minifig into Figma. I found a minifig site and used the html.to.figma plugin to pull all the images.

Then, you’ll save each layer as a component set that you can layer on top of each other into a minifig component.

You’ll then make it easy to change layers around by adding Nested Instances to the properties of the component.

From there, you can use the Simple Randomizer plugin to shuffle the layer instances up and make dozens of unique minifig characters right inside Figma.
